KHENPO NAMGYAL
The founder and the abbot of the Sungdrelling Monastery construction is Khenpo Rinpoche Ngawang Namgyal. He was born in Bakham village to the family of Ngakpa lama L.D.Sherpa. He joined the Taktse Nyingma Institute in Gantok (Sikkim, India) as a monk in 1987 to study the Buddhist Philosophy and has successfully completed his course in 2001 being awarded the title of acharya.
All his years of studies he was guided by his root guru - H.E. Rigzin Dorje Rinpoche (founder of Taktse Nyingma Institute) and has got various initiations, teachings and practices from H.H.Penor Rinpoche, Kyabje Chatral Rinpoche, Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche, Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, H.E.Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, Khenpo Thubten Rinpoche, Khenpo Pema Gyaltsen and many others.
After the graduation in 2001 Khenpo Namgyal continued to teach in Taktse Institute, as well in various Buddhist monasteries and schools, gathering his teaching experience for the next years .
Among personal views and visions of Khenpo Namgyal is his particular concern about provision of Dharma study facilities for the lay Buddhist practitioners in Himalayan region. As he often proclaims, in comparison to monastic sangha (and even the western students!) the Himalayan laymen do not have general access to study even basic Buddhist scripts - most can't even correctly read, chant and understand prayers in Tibetan. And the modern time swiftly changes the culture of Himalayas, less people, especially young generation, get to know actually anything exact about Buddhism, they are more inclined to look towards the West and slowly lose their roots! He sees the need of regular digestible Dharma teachings for them, especially those explaining the fundaments, aims and correct path of practice in Buddhism, as very important. Therefore since 2004 till present Khenpo Namgyal generously volunteers to teach various Dharma subjects along with Tibetan reading, writing and grammar for the laypeople community at Boudha Peace School in Phulbari, Boudhanath (Kathmandu).
In 2007 being recognized for his capabilities in teaching Buddhist philosophy of Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions he was conferred upon the title of Khenpo (professor).
