About monastery
Ngagyur Shedrub Sungdrelling
is a Buddhist monastery currently under construction (since 2014) in a picturesque village of Bakham (Sindhupalchok District of Nepal). There was no proper monastic establishments until now in this area, which could provide the education and residence to the monks and lamas, and serve as a centre for Buddhist rituals, meditations, piligrimage and much more. A Buddhist monastery like this in a remote mountain area often becomes an important place for locals to get the spiritual guidance and basic medical help, to gather for festive celebrations, and simply inspire them to preserve their cultural and spiritual heritage in their day-to-day life.
The plan of monastery complex includes: gompa (central prayer hall), study rooms, monks’ accommodation, kitchen, store rooms, office, as well as the rooms for outside guests and visitors. At this moment the first object - the gompa with the main altar and Buddhist statues is under construction. It is planned as 2-storey temple, able to admit up to 80 people on the 1st floor during the religious ceremonies. The 2nd floor will consist of study hall with a library.
The estimated cost of the gompa building is around 150 000 USD
The estimated cost of the other objects of monastery comples is around 100 000 USD
Once the construction of the main complex objects will be over, the monastery will admit for the start minimum 12 monks of the teen age.
